K9 Cooling Vests

Living for a Cause's cooling vest program, partners with the Ruffwear company, to keep K9 working dogs cool, protected and safe in the hot weather. It has been brought to our attention that working dogs can be exposed to extreme heat when out working to find missing persons. Heat exhaustion typically occurs when a dog's temperature falls between 103 and 106 degrees. A temperature above 106 places a dog at risk for heat stroke.
The Ruffwear Swamp Cooler provides protection from the sun and cooling through evaporation. In warm climates, dogs typically stay cool by seeking shade during the heat of the day and moving around in cooler temperatures. Sometimes our brave working dogs must stay on the trail of a missing person. These vests allow dogs to perform in hot climates. The colored fabric reflects solar radiation, while evaporative cooling pulls heat from the dog.

Thank you Ruffwear for your commitment to keeping working dogs safe and cool.
