Growing Green Program
Lou's Growing Green Program

Lou’s Growing Green program is named in loving memory of our dear friend and mentor Louis Stiglitz. Lou was a master gardener extraordinaire. Gardening was a labor of love for Lou.

Lou’s love of gardening will live on in those he touched during his lifetime and through all those who are impacted by Lou’s Growing Green projects.
Lou's Growing Green Program promotes gardening in schools and Senior Citizen Centers in New Jersey and Vermont.
Whether we are growing vegetables or flowers, gardening connects us to nature and provides a multitude of benefits. Lou’s Growing Green Program helps promote gardening in schools, senior living centers and to benefit communities-at-large.
Using an aeroponic growing system and building a unique garden in an upright tower garden, this approach allows gardening in exceptional environments and for a multitude of purposes.

Having these tower gardens at senior centers enables the senior gardener to be able to enjoy gardening without having to bend or be on their knees and promotes community interaction.
Lou’s Growing Green Program—a learning program for schools, looks to offer a hands on gardening learning program customized to each school’s Garden Tower specifications. Teachers and students collaborate to create these gardens and learn about the benefits of healthy living as they connect with nature. Schools are then required to report back in one year how this educational program was integrated into their curricula and how the funds were utilized.
Through this unique opportunity, students will take away the ability to live healthier lives through gardening, and understand the importance of good nutrition.

Testimonials
"We used the tower gardens thus far to discuss the scientific method and other introductory science knowledge. As we move forward in Environmental Science, we will talk about the interactions we have with plants and how energy is transferred from the food we eat to our bodies."
Christina Van Osten
Urban Promise Ministries, NJ
"We have a nutrition program and an amazing vegetable garden that our students work in. We have used the tower to begin starting seedlings for the veggie garden and then transplanting them to the larger outside garden as well."
