Honoring Willow

More than a dog, Willow was a healer, a protector, and a true gift of love. Willow was an amazing therapy dog where she visited nursing homes, schools, colleges, hospitals and community centers.  Her gentle presence touched countless lives, and in 2023 the New Jersey Department of Health recognized her impact by naming its first-ever pet therapy employee wellness initiative Project Willow.

This pioneering program transformed both the physical environment and the emotional well being of the public health workplace, setting a new standard for compassion-centered wellness.

In honor of Willow’s legacy of comfort, care, and connection, Living for a Cause is proud to rename our pet food security initiatives as the Willow Pet Food Security Programs. Through this name, Willow’s spirit of service and love will continue to support families and pets in need—just as she supported so many during her life.

Many people who face financial hardships are forced to make a traumatic decision to feed and take care of themselves and other human family members yet give up their beloved pets.

Willow Pet Food Assistance portfolio of programs is one viable avenue to provide  pet food supplies to families that are experiencing economic hardship.  This access to pet food—be it home delivery or access to pet food pantries—will help alleviate some of the financial burden of pet ownership and maintain the family unit by avoiding giving up their beloved pets.

Willow Pet Food Pantry Program partners with existing food pantries to reach families who qualify for support and who have beloved pets who are in need. The goal is to reduce the number of pets who are surrendered to shelters when pet owners are in financial crisis and to maintain pet health through consistent food supply. When families in need go to the food pantry, they can now receive healthy pet food for their pet.

Willow Pet In-Home Delivery Program in partnership with Chewy can provide in-home pet food delivery to qualified families allowing a family's pet to be able to have the food they normally eat eliminating food change health concerns.

Willow Patient Pet Food Security Wellness Program is a wonderful way to provide food supplies to families that are experiencing economic hardship.  This access to pet food—be it home delivery or access to pet food pantries—will help alleviate some of the financial burden of pet ownership and maintain the family unit by avoiding giving up their beloved pets.

This  program will assist in the ongoing struggles of individuals to pay for healthcare costs; keeping pets and families intact; supporting the mental health and wellness benefits that pets provide to their owners; and reducing the number of pets who are surrendered to shelters when pet owners are in financial crisis and undergoing medical care.

The program goal is to assist patients in prioritizing their own medical care and wellness, enhancing their mental health and well being through the joys of pet ownership, and reducing the number of pets who are surrendered to shelters when pet owner patients are in financial crisis.

A family pet needs to stay with the family. LFAC can make a difference in the health and emotional well being of patients and their beloved pets.
